What Happens After The Interview

After the interview, you will either be told that you have been approved or you will be handed a piece of paper that says “221g” indicating further review of your case.

The interviewer will return any original documents to you and keep all the copies for your case. If you are approved on the spot, expect your 10 year green card in the mail within 1-2 weeks. It will be delivered by courier but will not require a signature so make sure they have your current address.

If you have been placed on administrative processing, your case is under review and you should expect a letter asking for further evidence or documents. Respond quickly to any requests and USCIS contact customer service once a month for updates until your ROC case is approved.

In some situations where fraud is suspected, you will be asked to attend a second interview which is referred to as a “Stokes Interview”.  If you are ever asked to go to a second interview, you and your spouse will be separated and interviewed on camera.

The interviewer will then compare your answers to personal questions that only a couple would know. This interview is very serious and you need to prepare for it to avoid being denied and placed in removal proceedings.
